1998 SIJHSAA CLASS S STATE CHAMPS Sitting - Jeff Gillis, Keith Kelly Middle - Tim Atchison, Oscar Olivarez, Matt Dunbar, Andy Odle, Matt Hodge Back - Seth Williams, Michael Dunbar, Asst Coach Bill Kelly, Head Coach Aaron Tebbe, Curtis Parrish, Brandon Howell The 1998 junior high Eagles took on all comers that season. A tough schedule intended to gear them up for a long postseason run. Head Coach Aaron Tebbe and his assistant Bill Kelly, knew they had the type of roster capable of making a postseason run. At one point, the team was 5-4 on the season. From there, they would not lose again. Winning 10 games in a row that culminated in winning the Class S championship game. This team is the only team in school history to win a state title in sports of any kind. Finishing the season with a 15-4 mark. The postseason saw two close calls. A tough 6-5 win over Woodlawn in the second round, and a memorable 2-1 win over Jonesboro in the semifinal game. The Eagles claimed the title with a convincing 7-3 win over Smithton. The team was strong in all areas. A team fielding percentage of .961. The team also did work at the plate with a team batting average of .321 and a total of 55 extra base hits as a team. The team also got a lot of great pitching from a few different players. This team really boosted the morale of the school and the village with their success. It is an honor to have the team placed proudly into the Odin School Hall of Fame.

From 2006-2010, Tyler Parrish enjoyed a career for the record books for the Odin Eagles. In the end, he would come to rank as the all-time leading scorer in school history. He served notice his freshman season, when he averaged 17 points a contest. His sophomore season saw his average per game climb to 27 a game. That helped turn the fortunes of the young team around, as they finished 15-12 his sophomore season. His junior and senior seasons, saw the Eagles perform at a very high level. Finishing 20-4 his junior season and 20-6 his senior year. His scoring exploits stayed impressive for those two final seasons, as he averaged 28 points a contest his junior year and 29 a night his senior year. Tyler finished his career with 2,485 career points. Surpassing the long-standing number of 1,941 established by Kenny Vaughn in 1981. A gifted scorer who was capable of scoring from distance or slashing and driving to the basket. Respected by teammates and coaches and opponents alike, for his sportsmanlike play and his impressive abilities on the court. Tyler made the All-Tourney team at the Mulberry Grove Tournament all four seasons. He was the MVP of that event on three occasions. A four-time All-Conference selection on the first team in the Midland Trail Conference. His number 32 jersey is retired and on display in the school. He was named a 4th team All-State performer his senior season. His point total of 2,485 ranks 35th all-time in Illinois. At the college level, he took his scoring ability to Waldorf University. In nearly two and a half seasons of play, he amassed another 670 points for the school. A total that landed him in the top ten scorers in school history at that time. It is an honor to have a person and an athlete the caliber of Tyler Parrish placed into the Odin Schools Hall of Fame.

These five indicators that affect and predict school success are: -Effective Leaders -Collaborative Teachers -Involved Families Supportive Environments -Ambitious Instruction All teachers and 4th -12th grade students have responded to this survey. If we have at least 20% of parent involvement we will receive a parent report as well. Jeff Silvey was a 2-sport athlete for all 4 years of his high school career, but he had the most success on the baseball diamond. In the fall season of his senior year, Jeff batted an astounding .705, which would still be the state record, but he didn’t have enough at bats to qualify as he was 5 short. He finished his senior year with a .587 average. Jeff was team MVP his Junior & Senior years. At the completion of his career, he was in 8 IL state baseball records. Some of his accolades were conference MVP his senior year and All-Conference his junior year. After Odin, Jeff went on to play 2 years at Kaskaskia where he was All-Region & All-Conference his sophomore year. He completed his playing career at SIU Edwardsville where he was All-Region & All-Conference his senior year. On the hardwood, Jeff finished his career with 869 points and was All-Conference his junior and senior year as well as being named team MVP both years. He also helped lead the 91-92 team to the MTC Tournament championship and earned 1st Team All-Tournament for his efforts. Besides his senior fall season, his best athletic memories at Odin would be making it to the baseball Regional finals his freshman year, winning the “Grand Slam” in baseball his sophomore year and making it to the Conference tournament championship his senior year.
