In the early days of Odin Lady Eagles softball, it was Terri who did the bulk of the pitching that lead the team to a lot of its earliest success. Known for her control and consistency around the plate, she relied on her defense to make the plays. She did not throw exceptionally hard, but she had a knack for staying low in the strike zone and making batters swing at the pitch she wanted them to. Always with her emotions under control, it was hard to tell if the Eagles were up by ten or down by ten. She was a competitor on the mound or basketball court. Playing hard and always fair. An All-Conference performer multiple times, who was respected by not only her own coaches and teammates, but by her opponents as well. Her dedication and loyalty to the Lady Eagles and to the school itself, were and still are evident these many years later. It is an honor, to place Terri Ingles Freeman, into the Hall of Fame.
Terri Ingles Freeman is a proud 1985 graduate of Odin Public Schools, attending K-12 at Odin. She began her softball pitching career in the summer of 1977 as a 4th grader on the first girls' summer league team, coached by Odin Hall of Famer, Chuck Hawley. Terri was instrumental as the starting pitcher on many winning summer teams throughout the area during those grade school and high school years. Alongside her original teammates, she played for Odin Hall of Fame coach Sara Miller in the summer junior high league and for all four years on Odin’s high school softball team. During her high school career, Terri was named to the Midland Trail Conference (MTC) team all four years, including MTC MVP her senior year. She pitched two conference no-hitters during that senior season.
Terri was the first in the school’s history to wear the #00, requesting it when the school ordered new softball uniforms to kick off her Freshman year. She would carry the #00 into her college career after receiving a softball scholarship to play for two years at Kaskaskia College (KC). At KC, she earned the Blue Angel Award in softball her Freshman season.
The softball scholarship opened the door for her to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Journalism and later a Master’s degree in Rehab Administration and Services from SIU-Carbondale. After working for 30 years in the Peoria area, 20 of those years as a college instructor and the Coordinator of Access Services at Illinois Central College, Terri returned to the area in 2021 to finish out her teaching career and work as the Director of Equity and Access at Kaskaskia College. She and her husband Monte enjoy a quiet country life and take pleasure in giving back to their local community through various service activities.

Hall of Fame Inductee for Academics, Lieutenant Commander Ashley Ambuehl is a native of Odin, Illinois. She attended Odin Public Schools participating in FFA, Scholar Bowl, Softball, and Cross Country. She graduated in 2007 as Valedictorian. After high school, she attended Kaskaskia College, earning her Associates of Arts in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Murray State University in 2010.
After college, she returned home to substitute teach at her alma mater and continue her job at Pisces Pools & Spas. Upon her successful application, she served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Armenia teaching English and participating in recycling and composting projects. It was during her time in Armenia that she decided to join the military after her return home. She joined the US Navy and commissioned from Officer Candidate School in January 2015 and designated as a Naval Aviator in October 2016. LCDR Ambuehl conducted her initial flight training at NAS Pensacola and earned her wings of gold from HT-8 at NAS Whiting Field and became a MH-60S Knighthawk pilot.
She then went on to operate with the Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Guam where she served as the Assistant Operations Officer for HSC-25. She became an Aircraft Commander and served two deployments throughout the INDOPACOM taking her to places such as Thailand, Philippines, Japan, and South Korea. She was the second in her family to serve in Okinawa and South Korea after her uncle and great-uncle respectively. After her operational tour, she returned to NAS Whiting Field as an instructor to train future Naval Helicopter Pilots, utilizing the advice and mentorship provided by many of her Odin teachers.
She finished her Master’s in Public Administration and Policy from American University in 2023. LCDR Ambuehl has currently returned to sea and joined the crew of the USS Somerset (LPD 25) leading their air department. She worked with naval forces from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and many others during their 2024 deployment.
LCDR Ambuehl still returns home to see her family. Her favorite care packages include cards and letters from the village that raised her and enjoys the surprise when she explains to her coworkers the connections. Not everyone gets mail from the grade school and high school teachers.
