The team of high school students created a children's book titled Jay and the Vanishing Wealth; a story aimed at preventing bullying based on family wealth and economic inequality.
In this assembly, the high school students read their story to different grade levels. Teams discussed the moral of the story, along with lessons of bullying and kindness.
After storytime, there was a competition between grade levels to build the tallest tower. But there was a catch!
While teams had access to the same types of building materials, some teams had more than others. The result; the team that started with the most cups built the tallest tower.
After the competition, students on the winning team pointed out that although they won, it was unfair because they had more cups than the other teams. Their solution was to combine each team's cups to build one, unified tower.
After all of their hardwork throughout the past semester, the students' mission had been completed. With the guidance of their book and the game designed to drive the point home, Odin elementary school students were able to come up with solutions to prevent bullying based on how much, or how little, a student might have.
These high school students will be heading to SIU-Edwardsville on May 19th to compete in the state summit, with a chance to win money for the school. Wish them luck!
