The Regal Eagle
A new month means a new Regal Eagle award recipient. This award was started to highlight residents and graduates from my favorite school, in my favorite village. The award this month goes to Patrick Budds. Patrick graduated from Odin in 1992. He has chosen a career in law enforcement and has been making a difference ever since. Officer Budds was assigned to a DEA task force for 11 years and was recently presented with an award from the US Department of Justice for the work he did there. He is currently an officer in O’fallon Missouri where he has been proudly representing law enforcement while setting an exemplary standard of being a good person we should all strive to achieve. Thank you Officer Budds, we are proud of you in the village and proud to call you not just an Eagle- but a Regal Eagle.

The Illinois Department of Health provided updated guidance on Thursday, August 20, describing when a student or staff member should be excluded from school. This guidance has been attached for your convenience. In this guidance, it describes how long the student or staff member must be quarantined and the process to return to school. It is important that you look through this chart to fully understand how students and staff must be quarantined in certain situations. Please note that if your student is experiencing ONE of the listed symptoms, they must be excluded from school. At this time, we are requesting students and staff who are forced to quarantine, but healthy enough to engage in the classroom remotely, continue to work remotely similar to our remote learning for all plan. Odin Public School District will continue to closely monitor quarantined individual numbers as well as local COVID-19 case numbers to determine what phase of our return to school plan we will move to in the future. As we work to reach our "new normal," the safety and health of students, staff and families is the top priority for everyone at Odin Public School District. https://www.isbe.net/Documents/IDPH-COVID19-Exclusion-Decison-Tree.pdf

A message from Centralia Regional Library regarding updates on library services for students: A few changes are in the works at Centralia Regional Library that may be of interest to your school. The library has purchased additional mobile hotspot units for patrons to check out. We are also in the process of re-cataloging our laptop computers to checkout for off-site use. Our thoughts in doing this is to have these units available for students that may need the technology if they are taking virtual classes at any time during the school year. As you probably know, our library card can be used for ALL of our services, both on-site and online. Before issuing cards to minors, we require parents to sign a registration form, with parent ID information. Registration forms are available at the Centralia Regional Library. In the past we could only issue free cards to those who lived within the boundaries of our library district. In June, the Governor signed HB 2096, which included the Cards for Kids Act. This act states that nonresident fees shall not be charged to a nonresident student in an unincorporated area whose household falls at or below the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Income Eligibility Guidelines. This gives us the legal right to issue free cards to students who meet the requirements even if they do not live in our library district. For questions , or more information regarding library services, please contact the Centralia Regional Library at 618-532-5222.

Due to state and CDC guidelines, registration will look a little different this year. Odin Public School District #722 will be holding registration from 1pm- 6 pm on the following dates: • Tuesday, July 21st: Last names A-H • Wednesday, July 22nd: Last names J-R • Thursday, July 23rd: Last names S-Z All students in the Odin School District will need to register regardless of previous enrollment. It is very important that EVERY family attend registration so that your family can be given their individual instructions for starting the school year. If you cannot attend during your scheduled time, please contact the office at 775-8266. Registration fees this year are $80 per student. Financial applications will be available at registration to determine whether registration fees may be waived. If your student is enrolled in Driver’s Education, there will be an additional $60 fee for that course (Driver’s Education fee cannot be waived). Due to social distancing guidelines, we ask that, if possible, parents/guardians attend registration WITHOUT students/children. Due to ISBE guidelines, all individuals that enter the school building MUST wear a mask or face covering.

While we do not know when registration will be or what it will look like just yet, we wanted to give you a head start on completing the mandated health requirements required by the state of Illinois. If your student requires medication to be administered during the school day, a new medication consent form must be signed by a physician and on file with the school for the current school year. Printable forms are available on our website at https://www.odinpublicschools.org/o/opsd/browse/93721

I just realized I haven’t announced the Regal Eagle award for the month! This month’s Regal Eagle is Mary Minor. She is everything from Lunch Lady to superintendent babysitter/advisor and much, much more. She is always willing to go above and beyond even outside the school but specially with all her “kids”. She is “Mom” to staff and students. There is rarely an event in the village she hasn’t been a part of in some fashion. We love you Mary Lu, thank you for all you do. To Seniors: Just drove through the village. Our school, the Fire Department, and the park lights are all lit up tonight to honor our Seniors at Odin High School. This is not the way any of us anticipated this year to end. It’s extremely heartbreaking and unfortunate! However, many started school here in PreK, others became part of our school community, our family, later. Regardless, you Seniors have so many memories of school. You’re missing 2 two months of a grand total of 12 or more years. And yes, these were important months. Trips, awards, dinners, and yes, graduation were all scheduled in May. Hang on to the memories that you have made at OHS. Think about the meaningful relationships that you’ve made with your classmates and staff. No matter where your path takes you in your life, always know that you’re an EAGLE! Lastly, this school and this community is here for you and love you very much! Mr. Alli Your Principal

These are wild times. For many of us, all we can think about is COVID-19. It is affecting almost every part of our daily lives. Someday, though, this will all be a memory – something that happened in the past that we all got through, together. Making a time capsule is a fun activity and a great way to preserve memories. March 20, 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians, Our Accelerated Reader program through Renaissance Learning is challenging students to engage in reading and to continue to build their reading skills. During the mandated school closure, students may take Accelerated Reader tests at home. Students may access the Accelerated Reader tests using the following link. https://global-zone08.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/372337 Each student will then log in as if they would at school. They will select “I am a Student” and then enter their login and passwords. They can then proceed as normal to take reading quizzes. Thank you for continuing the partnership between home and school during this unprecedented time! We hope that the new access to Accelerated Reader at home will keep students reading! Thank you!
