Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship is available.  Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to high school seniors for the 2011-2012 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport.  Any eligible student can register and begin the application process at www.wendysheisman.com.  The online application must be completed by October 2, 2011.  Contact Mrs. Nitz, Guidance, if you have any questions.

QuestBridge’s National College Match Program pairs outstanding low-income high school seniors with admission and full four-year scholarships to some of the nation’s leading colleges.  College Match scholarships cover the full cost of tuition, room and board, worth up to $200,000.

            face of economic obstacles.

The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Seniors are invited to participate in the 2012 Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Program.  The scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring/summer 2012, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree, and United States citizenship.  The scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $2,500 to $20,000.  More information and an online application is at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships  Students may apply from August 1 to October 20, 2011.

The AFA Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship is available.  The scholarship awards $5,000 to a deserving college-bound student.  First Runner-Up:  $500; Second Runner-Up:  $250.  Share your story .. . write an essay about how Alzheimer’s disease has changed or impacted your life and what you have learned about yourself, your family and/or your community in the face of coping with Alzlheimer’s disease.  For scholarship details and an application visit www.afateens.org.   The annual application deadline is February 15.

Tri-County Electric Cooperative is pleased to announce the Thomas H. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC) Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship will award eight $1,250 academic scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a college education.  Four scholarships will be awarded to the son or daughter of an electric cooperative employee or director.  The fifth scholarship, the “Earl W. Struck Memorial Scholarship.” will be awarded to a student who is the son or daughter of an electric cooperative employee or director who resides in Illinois.  A scholarship applicant is eligible for consideration in only one of the two above categories.  The above scholarships may be used for educational costs at any two-year or four-year accredited college or university in the United States, including vocational/technical schools.  The sixth and seventh scholarships will be reserved for use at a two-year Illinois community college.  Sons or daughters of electric cooperative members, employees and directors who reside in Illinois are eligible.  All necessary paperwork is available in the guidance office with Mrs. Nitz.  Check out the cooperative’s website at www.tricountycoop.com.  Application deadline is December 31, 2011.

The National Co-op Scholarship Program will award 155 merit scholarships totaling $4 Million.  Students who are admitted to one of the seven institutions listed in the scholarship brochure can apply for one of these scholarships simply by visiting the website, www.co-op.edu, and completing an online version of the form.   Qualifications include:  have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 of better on a 4.0 scale and complete all the required admissions applications materials and be accepted for the 2012-2012 academic year at one of the WACE Partner Institutions listed. The National Co-op Scholarship Program only applies to the seven WACE Partner Institutions listed—Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, and University of Toledo.    Deadline for submitting scholarship application and essay is February 15, 2012.  Early submission is strongly encouraged.

The Illinois Odd Fellow Scholarship has arrived.  Applicants need not be affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, but must be a resident of Illinois and a citizen of the United States.  The application may be found at www.ioof-il.org.  highlight Programs, click on State Projects and then Scholarship Program then click on Scholarship Application.  Applications must be fully completed and post marked before March 1, 2012.  Please allow ample mail delivery time.

The U.S. Bank Scholarship Program has arrived.  This program is available to high school seniors and college undergraduates.  Forty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in a random drawing.  There are no essays.  The program runs from October through March.  Apply online at www.usbank.com/scholarship.

The IRTA Foundation Scholarship (Illinois Retired Teacher Association Foundation Scholarship for 2012) is available.  The general information, the application, and the consent to release form are posted at the IRTA website at www.irtaonline.org under the Foundation tab, then the submenu of programs, and finally scholarships.  Please note that the application no longer needs to be endorsed by or a descendent of an IRTA member.  All applications must be postmarked on or before March 7, prior to the applicant’s junior or senior year in college, and mailed to the office of the IRTA Foundation.  Recipients will be notified by April 21 of that same year.  Contact Mrs. Nitz if you have any questions concerning this scholarship.

The Illinois PTA Lillian E. Glover Scholarship has arrived.  This scholarship is available to public high school seniors entering the field of education or an education-related field at a university/college of their choice.  1st Place--$1,500 and 2nd Place--$1,000.  Deadline for application must be postmarked on or before February 17, 2012.  An application is available in the Counselor’s office or may be downloaded at www.illinoispta.org

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is available for up to $100,00---1,000 scholarships each at up to $25,000/year and 1,000 scholarships each at $2,000.  They encourage the following to apply:

·         high school seniors and undergraduates

·         those who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university in 2012-2013

·         those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association announced it will be awarding over $53,000 in college scholarships throughout Illinois during the 2012-2013 school year.  Marion County Sheriff, Jerry DeVore, will be awarding one Illinois Sheriff’s Association Scholarship in the amount of $500.  To apply for the scholarship visit Marion County Sheriff’s Department at 204 North Washington Street in Salem to get the application or download the application form online at www.ilsheriff.org. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question, and return all documents to the Marion County Sheriff’s office by March 12, 2012.  The scholarship is to be applied to tuition, books, and fees only.  The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois and must be a permanent Illinois resident.   For more information contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, your high school guidance counselor, or the college financial aid office.

The NDTA Scott/St. Louis Chapter Scholarship Program  (National Defense Transportation Association) is to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution.  The scholarship program awards a minimum of two (2) scholarships of $3,500 each and four (4) scholarships of $2,000 each for recipients enrolled in an accredited bachelors or graduate degree program in 2012.  Two additional awards of $1,500 each are awarded to students enrolled in a two-year associate degree or trade certification program.  Additional awards may be granted pending availability of funds.  Applicants must be high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2012 or full-time college students. One of the $3,500 awards is awarded to immediate family members of active members of the Scott/St. Louis Chapter of the NDTA.  Applications are available in Mrs. Nitz’s office.  Application deadline must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2012.

The SCV/MOS & B Scholarship (Sons of Confederate Veterans Illinois Society, Military Order of Stars & Bars) is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who resides in Illinois and will be enrolling in the fall at a community college, college, or university.  The student must be a descendant of a male who served honorably in the army, navy, judicial, executive, or civil service of the confederate states of America. Lineal or collateral family lines must be documented genealogically with a descendency chart. Student must submit a 500 word essay.  The topic of the essay shall deal with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with such cause during the war between the states. Student must submit a transcript of grades and biography as background information only.  Application forms are available from Mrs. Nitz in the guidance office.  Application, essay, and other required documents are to be submitted to the Illinois Society States Chair and postmarked prior to March15, 2012.

The Marion County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship is available.  The scholarship amount is $1,000. (Minimum 10 will be awarded.) 

Eligible applicants must:

·         Be high school senior graduating in spring or college student working on BS degree. 

·         Be a Marion County Farm Bureau member, spouse of a member, spouse of a member or child of a member (minimum 2 years)

·         Be accepted for enrollment or be enrolled at a post-secondary school.

The Kathryn G. Hansen Scholarship is intended for students planning to pursue higher education in the office professional, secretarial, or business-related fields.  One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded.  The scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books, or other related educational expenses.  Ms. Hansen was one of the founding members of the State Universities Civil Service System and The Secretariat.  In her honor, The Secretariat has created the Kathryn G. The Centralia Lady Elks are awarding two $250 scholarships to Kaskaskia College.    The applicant must be planning to attend Kaskaskia College for the 2012-2013 school year.  He or she must reside in the Centralia Elks Club jurisdiction which consists of the following high school districts:  Okawville, Nashville, Mater Dei, Breese Central, Wesclin, Carlyle, Odin, Sandoval, Patoka, or Centralia, including Christ Our Rock.  The applicant may also already be a student at Kaskaskia College.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Applications must be received by April 15, 2012.

BCMW Scholarship Program will be awarding ten $500 scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.  BCMW will also be awarding a $500 scholarship in memory of C. Russell Rose, former director of BCMW and a $500 scholarship in memory of former board chairman, Doris Clark.  Eligibility criteria will be based on: income, most current grade point average, a 100-200 word career goals statement, three letters of recommendation and an interview with the scholarship committee.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Applications must be received by 3 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012.

The Mary K. Doyle Scholarship is awarded to a senior in memory of Mary K.
